RUTH PALMER HEFFRON
Ruth Palmer Heffron, age 87, passed away peacefully Monday, February 15, 2016 at HPH Hospice in New Port Richey, FL.
Ruth was born June 10, 1929 in Vernon, Alabama to Pearlie Robertson Palmer and Robert Daniel Palmer. After high school she moved with her sister, Marie, to Washington, D.C. She lived there until meeting and marrying Louis Heffron, her husband of 37 years. They moved to the Virgin Islands where she worked as an optician assistant for many years. Later in life they relocated back to the states and settled in the panhandle of Florida where they had several business endeavors. After a time they moved to Sebring, FL then to New Port Richey where she resumed her work as an optician assistant. Ruth had a passion for animals, especially cats and was always taking care of the homeless cats in her neighborhood. She also loved flowers and gardening, enjoying the lush tropical plants in the Caribbean where she and her husband spent most of their married life.
She is survived by her sister, Marie Myrick, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Murphy M. Palmer, Columbus, MS and Reuben Palmer, Saraland, AL, husband, Louis, and brother-in-law George Myrick.
A memorial Mass in celebration of Ruth Heffron will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Thursday, February 18, 2016, 10 a.m., High Street, New Port Ritchey. Her cremains will be buried with her husband, Louis, at later graveside services, Lovejoy Cemetery, Beaverton, Alabama.
