Merle Amundson

February 21, 1950 — January 7, 2018

Merle Amundson, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in New Port Richey, Florida. Merle was born on February 21, 1950 in Mayville, North Dakota. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cherise Amundson. They moved to New Port Richey, Florida in 1979. They had three children, Sarah (husband Nate), Amanda, and John (wife Colleen). There are also four grandchildren – Mariah, Samantha, Andrew and Owen. He is also survived by his three brothers and sister – Ron, Lyle, Gary, and Renae, and their families. If you ever had a chance to meet Merle, you would certainly never forget him. He had a smile that could light up a room and a soul that would draw you in. Merle opened his heart to everyone he met. He was the center of every party and had a story for every occasion. (most of us have heard them a few times!) Merle was a constant thinker and dreamer. He would always have multiple projects underway and others on deck. Whether it was a vehicle restoration, a shooting range, or an invention, he would make sure it was perfect before receiving his seal of approval. In his work, he excelled as well. Always taking the extra steps that others deemed too difficult or time consuming. His personality and wit allowed him to flourish throughout multiple career fields. He easily turned colleagues into lifelong friends and left an enduring mark on all who know him. But Merle was most content when he was with his family and friends. If you ever wanted to see a man in a total state of peace and prosperity, you would look for Merle surrounded by the ones that love him. If you knew Merle, you would know that he never talked about himself. Yet, he never stopped talking about his family. His family was his legacy. When you remember Merle, remember one thing…. that he loved his family and friends more than himself. A viewing will be held on Friday, January 12th from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at Morgan Funeral Home. The address is 6025 Trouble Creek Road, New Port Richey, 34653. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 13th at 10 am with reception to follow at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, located at 8320 Old County Road 54, New Port Richey, 34653. We Love you Merle and will miss you!!!
