Margaret Smith

June 9, 1937 — August 27, 1956

Margaret M. (Peggy) Smith, of New Port Richey, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 9, 1937 to Edward and Margaret (Moorman) Viancourt. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy and the Lorain County Community College of Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse for many years. She married Owen P. Smith 0n August 27, 1956 and they raised seven children. Peggy resided in Cleveland and Medina, Ohio prior to moving to New Port Richey, Florida. Peggy was an active member of St. Vincent DePaul Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and also worked in the gift shop for many years. She was very active in the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and was Past Florida State President and Past Division President, St. Brigid Division. She was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and The Ohio State University Buckeyes (and occasionally the University of Washington Huskies.) She also enjoyed playing cards, golfing and fishing as well as camping with family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She is survived by her six children: Margaret (David) Kelch of Grafton, OH; Mary Schlechty of Kirkland, WA; Brian (Carla) Smith of Wadsworth, OH; Michael (Amy) Smith of North Ridgeville, OH; Patrick (Tamara) Smith of Cortland, OH; and Dennis (Heather) Smith of Maineville, OH. She especially treasured the time that she spent with her 18 grandchildren: Jessica (Rob) Kelch Pardee, Cody (Mary) Kelch, Benjamin (Andrea) Schlechty, Christopher Schlechty, Rachel (Charles) Schlechty Horkin, Caitlyn Smith Vorst, Scott (Brittany) Smith, Kelly (Candice) Truex, and Hope, Neal, Casey, Cassandra, Jacquelyn, Emily, Owen, Alex, Max and Blake Smith. She dearly loved her four great-grandchildren: Austin, Cooper, Lucy and Grady. She is also survived by her brothers Edward (Gail) and Robert Viancourt and sisters Frances Molnar and Coletta Hotes. Peggy also enjoyed many adventures with her special friend, Kenneth Pulling. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Owen P. Smith, Jr., her husband Owen P. Smith, Sr. and her brother David Viancourt. In Florida, family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Morgan Funeral Home, 6025 Trouble Creek Rd., New Port Richey. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 4843 Mile Stretch Dr., Holiday, Florida. In Ohio, family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at Visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019, followed by a Memorial Service and Luncheon at Waite & Sons Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, Ohio. Burial will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brookpark, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to HPH Hospice, 12107 Majestic Blvd., Hudson, FL 34667.
