James Gerard Sierchio

James G. Sierchio, 94, passed quietly on Monday, September 12 at his home at Brookdale Assisted Living in New Port Richey, Florida. James was born in Teaneck, New Jersey, the son of James and Mafalda Sierchio. He attended and was a graduate of West Caldwell High School where he played football and ran track. After high school, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps and received an Honorable Discharge in 1950. After serving his country, he enrolled in college and received a business degree from New York University. After NYU, he worked at and later took over his family’s business, West Milford Hardware and Home Center. He spent his career managing the hardware business, plumbing and heating, and also plowing snow for residents throughout the town. At the same time, James was an active volunteer member of the reserve corp. and later served as a Passaic County Sheriff. James also used his business acumen in local banking and was elected and served as a Board Member of Lakeland State Bank. James married Patricia Loughlin from nearby Cupsaw Lake, and they enjoyed a wonderful family life in West Milford, NJ. They raised their children; James Neil - predeceased, Glenn Michael and Pamela Stetson who all graduated from WMHS. Later James and “Pat” retired to Florida and lived happily together for over 30 years until Pat’s passing in 2001. While in Florida they enjoyed sailing and later motor boating together throughout the Gulf Coast. James later moved to Trinity then New Port Richey where he remained until his passing. James is pre-deceased by his sister, Dorothy and her husband, Joe Bolcato, and his son, James Neil. James affectionately known as “Pop-Pop” will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Pamela Stetson and her husband, Gary Wong and their two children, Kira and Erik. James will be buried next to his wife, Patricia, at Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey.
