Jim was born on March 4, 1937 in Springfield, Ohio to parents J. Arthur and Mildred Shuman.  He was a graduate of Springfield High School and majored in Economics at Ohio State and Wittenberg University.  He was a member of the Army Reserve from 1957-1959 and the Ohio National Guard from 1959 to 1964.  Jim spent time as a Deputy Sheriff under his father for a short time but the majority of his career was spent at Navistar, Inc., formerly known as the International Harvester Company.  He held numerous positions in Springfield, OH, Fort Wayne, IN and Chicago, IL.  He retired in 1992 after 32 years with Navistar and then went to work as a consultant with Engineering Systems, Inc. in Naperville, Illinois from 1992-1996.  After five years with them, Jim and his wife Jan decided to relocate to Florida to be near family.   In Florida, he continued to consult for Navistar, Inc. from 1996 until 2017.

When not working, Jim loved to boat, golf and bowl.  Jim and his wife joined the Gulf Harbors Yacht Club 2000 and he held several positions there before becoming the Commodore in 2007.

Jim is survived by his wife, Janet (Jan), of 38 years, his children, James A. (AJ) Shuman III and Amy Shuman and his grandchildren Morgan Shuman and Miles Laws.  He is preceded in death by his sister Margaret Jane Clawson.
