Clara Ann Scalph

1920 — May 1, 2020

Born Clara Ann Pieper April 17,1920 in Mitchell, Nebraska. Although Clara’s mom died shortly after giving her life, she never use that tragic short coming to stop her! Clara grew up on a farm in Nebraska with her dad, stepmom, and siblings. Clara married her sweetheart, Lloyd Scalph, and they settled in Virginia and raised their six children. Some years later, Clara and her husband also raised two grandsons as their own and moved to Port Richey, Florida. Clara and her husband owned and operated L & C Barber Shop for over 40 years. In 2008 Clara lost her husband and she continued to run the barbershop until the age of 92, when she retired as a Lady Barber. She would later spend the last two years of her life with her granddaughter and family in Bayonet Point, Florida. Clara loved God, her family, horses, cutting hair, painting and she loved to eat! She also loved to feed everyone and not to mention her love of chocolate! Although she could seem tough at times, it was that toughness in her that got her through it all. Farm life wasn’t easy for Clara and she grew up during some very trying times. The great depression, almost killed in an automobile accident with a tractor trailer in 1974 that left her extremely physically broken, and then to lose a son. Through all of life‘s normal and not so normal events, she never seemed to hesitate to do all she could to fix it. Like a mom does! We will always remember her fighting spirit, her devotion to church and her family. She was a survivor in every sense of the word! Clara always inspired strength, courage and solidarity. Some of us really believed she was Invincible, like some kind of superhero. “Our Superhero ” Clara always seemed to put others' needs before her own and there was nothing she would not do for us all… EXCEPT miss Mass! She was one of a kind and will never be forgotten. Clara was always determined to make it to 100 and she did just that! We will all proudly carry on through her love, strength and commitment to God and family. Clara went peacefully in her sleep and entered the Kingdom of heaven on May 1, 2020. Clara was welcomed home by her husband, Lloyd, their son, Derwin Sr. and finally reunited with her mom, Clara! She leaves behind 5 children, 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Funeral Mass to be held April 30, 2021 at 10AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in New Port Richey, FL with burial to follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell at 12:30PM.
